Experimental study on the effects of used HEPA filters on water environment

In this paper, the commonly used High Efficiency Particulate Air filter (HEPA) material as research object, through design of indoor experiment, using pure water, groundwater, and rainwater solution to soak, analysis unused abandoned mesh in different water chemical release/adsorption law anion metal components, order find out its potential impact on environment. Results showed that: (1) when waste HEPA filters were soaked solutions, maximum average release amounts $$(\overline {{Q_{max}}} )$$ four anions a as: $${\rm{SO}}_4^{2 - } > {\rm{NO}}_3^ {\rm{C}}{{\rm{l}}^ {{\rm{F}}^ }$$. Pure waters highest Cl $${\rm{NO}}_3^ $$, which 1.2120 0.3387 mg/g, respectively. Groundwater $$ F , 6.7329 0.0348 mg/g. These indicated that was major pollutant for groundwater more susceptible be contaminated by released from filters. (2) three metals Zn> Pb> As, which, Zn (2.21 μg/g), followed water. This meant is heavy into environment, (3) None Zn, Pb, As these solutions filter, indicating it has almost no contamination threat study expected further improve understanding environmental pollution prevention management, provide theoretical basis China’s ecological environment protection.
